Traditional Reiki
So what is traditional Reiki?
Mrs Hawayo Takata brought Reiki out of Japan and before she died, created 22 Reiki Masters from whom our western Reiki has sprung.
These Masters taught Mrs Takata’s format of four attunements over two days for Reiki 1 and two attunements over two days for Reiki 2.
Véronique was taught her Reiki in France and Alex received his training in Scotland. Both had different Masters, both received traditional training formats in two different countries.
In today’s modern way of life, everything seems to be getting faster and faster. Many Reiki Master have reduced their training, both Reiki 1 and 2 to a one day format, many are also reducing the number of attunements. For example we are aware of some Masters reducing their Reiki 1 attunements to as low as one.
Our courses are taught in the traditional format that we received our training for the following reasons:-
Reiki attunements adjust a person’s body to be able to channel or pass the Universal Life Energy. Our bodies are the same biologically as they have been over the centuries and possibly millennia. They adapt slowly.
Our modern way of life, to our bodies, has seemed a very rapid change, which has brought us new illnesses, which were unknown 100 years ago. Even our present social welfare structure has been unable to recognise and adapt to modern socially induced health problems.
Mrs Takata’s training format allows our bodies to adapt at a pace our bodies can comfortably cope with.
A parallel example is in the field of Sports therapy. Alex is a fully qualified Sports and Remedial massage therapist and when he needs to access deep muscles he knows he must go into the tissues slowly, at a rate the body allows him to. Otherwise he will be ejected by the body.
We are not saying that some of the modern teaching modalities are ineffective. Only that, in our minds, the traditional format allows the body to accept the changes at a more natural pace. The two day format also allows more time absorb the information presented in a more leisurely and effective way.
